There is something about fall that always invites us to slow down and notice what is changing around us.

The air becomes cooler. The days grow shorter. The brilliant colors of autumn remind us that change can be beautiful—and that every season is preparing us for what comes next.

This October, we are honored to introduce you to Josiah Maddicks, one of the students whose educational journey is being supported through Hudson Naturals.

Originally from Brooklyn, Josiah is studying Cybersecurity at Mount Saint Mary College and dreams of becoming a penetration tester, helping individuals and organizations protect the technology that increasingly shapes our lives.

When we asked Josiah about his dream for the future, his answer was surprisingly simple:

“Freedom.”

For Josiah, receiving a scholarship has provided a little more of that freedom already. With less financial pressure, he is able to spend more time concentrating on his studies, taking challenging coursework, and pursuing additional cybersecurity certifications.

But what touched us most was what Josiah hopes to do with that opportunity.

He dreams of caring for his family, returning to his college to encourage students who need that extra push through the door, and giving back to young people in his Brooklyn community.

And perhaps our favorite reflection from Josiah was this:

“My dream is to look up at the sky and breathe as comfortably as one can.”

As the seasons change around us, his words are a beautiful reminder of why Hudson Naturals exists.
